Haven't you noticed when you look around you everyone basically looks the same. Every teenage girl in High School dresses the same way wearing leggings with Uggs or jeans with Uggs, mainly because we are afraid to step out of our comfort zone. Most teens believe that the more they look like everyone else the closer that they are to being the same as everyone else. But why does every teen want to just fit in with the rest of society, instead of being their individual self. Most girls are afraid to show people who they really are. Teenagers usually think that fashion consists of models strutting themselves down a runway. Fashion is the way that everyone expresses themselves and at times it can apply to a persons personal mode of expression that may or may not apply to all. Therefore, fashion is something that almost something that everyone has, the way they talk, the way they walk, the way they dress, the way they spend their money, the music they listen to, really identifies the type of person. Teenagers are at a point in their life where they want to be able to express themselves and ''fit in'' with everyone else. Does fashion separate us or bring us closer together? If you actually think about it fashion does both at the same time, it brings people together because it creates different types of cliques like the preppy kids, punk, the Gothic kids, but at the same time it brings these teenagers together having friends that they are able to relate to. Another one of these cliques is emo. Emo is characterized by tight fitting jeans, side swept bangs, skate shoes, and belt buckles. The personality of an emo person is recognized as being depressed and emotional. Fashion always creates cliques. Teenagers like to stay with these cliques, according to their taste, the cliques influence their fashion. Fashion in every clique changes over time. Fashion is very sterotypic because most kids are judged by the groups that they hang out with or the clothes that they wear.
Fashion such as clothing and apparel, always changes and it reflects the change in popular culture and its affect on teenagers. Recently, heavy metal fashion, slim fitting jeans, low-rise jeans, fauxhawks, hip-hop fashion, and designer sunglasses have all come into fashion. Fashion from the 80’s is also seeing a return in upturned collars, leggings, and side pony-tails. It has also become fashionable to carry an iPod with complimentary accessories as one walks around the mall. Everyone just try to fit in because they are either shy or afraid to be themselves. A person’s fashion shapes who we are and how we choose to live our lives. This also gives people a mode of expression. Teenagers adhere to fashion to develop their sense of identity and to express themselves. People especially teenagers need to start wearing what they want because it makes them feel good about themselves not because they want to impress people or fit in. The things you wear should define who you really are as a person.
