The influence Violent television has on kids...
Television and advertisements influence the lives of many young kids in different types of ways. We can all agree that television influences us in many aspects of our lives. It is scary the amount of influence that television has on us. As young adults we are easily convinced about things and we never bother to question anything or anyone's authority. Violence television is effecting the minds of children in various ways. Television is what shapes the behavior of kids. If we allow kids to watch such violence shows all they will really learn is how to fight, kill, and harm others. Is that what we want kids to learn? There have been several of studies on children watching violence television and kids that watch violence TV become immune to the violence, some eventually start to use violence as a way to solve their problems, while others will even try to imitate the violence that they witness on television! Our kids can become victims or even victimizers of certain crimes because of violence television. Watching violence television shows can make kids more aggressive.

Television is a major influence on the American Life. The things we watch define the type of person we are. It is scary to believe that it is proven that television has a greater influence on young kids than adults do. Is that how it is supposed to be? If young kids are watching violent shows, they will start to want to try these things on their own which will bring more violence in our society. Television takes time away from other things such as reading, exercise, and social activities. If we spend the same amount of time reading as we do to watching television we would be considered genius's! Television has the ability to influence people mainly young kids with harmful and violent impressions of the world. Many kids that end up doing harmful things to others, usually do it because of the violent shows that they watch. Parents should be concerned about the amount of time we should spend watching television. Does watching too much television cause poor performance in school? Kids are to focused on television rather than on their school work which is much more important. Parents need to be more concerned about the type of shows that their kids are watching. Kids that watch these violent shows end up hurting other because they believe it is okay to do that. We need to show our kids that violence is never the answer, so we should control what they are watching.

  1. Ina, I agree with you. Terlevision has changed peoples livbes and espcially the rality shows. Teenagers are getting glued to the televisons and in the shows rhat are happening right now. People don't see how this is getting worse and people need to realise it.

  2. yes ! Michelle i think that television shows are out of control, the media does not realize how the things they put on television effects young adults. The media is sending different messages to kids.

  3. I without a doubt agree with you 100%. Television controls people now a days. All the shows that people watch send wrong messages to people, like getting into fights is okay, being pregant at 16, geting wasted...ect. I also thing part of the blame belongs to the parents. They should have a little more control over their kids and raise them to not follow what televison shows. For example, I've been watching wrestling since I was 3 and you don't see me going around body slamming people.

  4. yeah, parents should have a part of their children's lives and they should be able to control the shows that their kids watch. If parents are not aware of what their kids are watching then they should sit and watch television with their kids, anything that they have to do to help control the things that their kids watch.

  5. The addition of this chart is great. In 1998, I was in my first year of college, and it's interesting to remember what tv was like then. Excellent work.

  6. Thank you miss. Seltzer, I think that this is a very important issue in our society today and most people ignore it instead of trying to fix the problem.

  7. I totally agree with you 100%. I personaly feel that video games have a great impact on the lives of the children. In some ways it is even more graphic and violent that television. It is scary that as years go by the amount of violece on T.V increases while the age of the kids watching gets lower. Like the chart says the amount of gun and other weapon violence increased over the years and the shows that contain this is showing kids that it is ok to use these weapons. Many of these children that are watching these shows will find it normal to act out and become violent. Hopefully the amount of violence on television shows will decrease soon!

  8. Just like many of the people above, I agree with you. The chart shows how violence from video games has progressed in those 4 years. I am sure the numbers are even higher now in 2010. I not only speak from reading many articles on this topic, but also from viewing family friend's little boys become more violent from playing violent video games.
